Should You Treat Children Differently in Your Will?
As your children grew, you loved and treated them all the same.
Yet, maybe one of them held a special place in your heart or needed more help from you. So while drawing up your will, you may be tempted to leave that child a larger portion of your money.
However, unless you have sound, practical reasons for doing so, leaving children different shares of your estate could also mean leaving a bequest of bitterness, says Liza Hanks, a Palo Alto, Calif., estate planner and an attorney with Finch Montgomery Wright LLP.
